DeGale deserves a rematch with Groves

By Scott Gilfoid: For most boxing fans that saw tonight’s fight between James DeGale and George Groves, they thought DeGale should have nicked it by a couple of rounds. Unfortunately, the judges saw different, scoring it for Groves by the scores of 115-115, 115-114 and 115-114 to give him a controversial 12 round majority decision win.

Now I think I speak for everyone here when I say that DeGale deserves a rematch. It’s the only way we can clear up the controversy over this horrendous decision and have an outcome that boxing fans can live with and not feel anger about. I say once their cuts have been healed up sufficiently for them to fight again, say five months from now, DeGale and Groves need to fight again.

DeGale will prove his superior talent with the next fight and continue with the domination that he was showing in the past seven rounds of the fight. I’ve never seen a fight where the fighter that has completely dominated the second half of the fight, the way that DeGale did, comes up short on the scorecards.

It’s not like DeGale was knocked down in the first six rounds or anything. He at least won two or three of the first six rounds, and pretty much swept the last six. How in the world then did DeGale not get the decision? This is a travesty. They need to get them both back together for an immediate rematch so that fans can have a peace of mind about the results. The better man didn’t win tonight, believe me.
