Is Audley Harrison really thinking about coming back?

Image: Is Audley Harrison really thinking about coming back?By Gari Jones: It’s been nearly 5 months since one punch landed and then fall over Harrison lost un-spectacularly to rival David Haye. Whilst talk’s of a major title bout between Haye and Wladimir are still ongoing, Audley still dares to believe he can too capture a World Heavyweight crown, despite the fact he’s 39 and way outside contention. To have any hope of fighting for a crown he must get into the top 20 and he isn’t even there.

In a recent article in The Sun newspaper and on his web page claiming Audley did not take a dive, Auldey still aims to prove his doubters wrong. The subject is ridiculous for a man who has flopped at every chance he’s got to claim a no: 1 contender spot and even when he has the title match he’s too scared to even throw a punch.

But seeing as Harrison love or hate him can draw attention to himself, what plans can this waste of talent actually make and achieve?. BOXREC.com currently ranks Audley no: 31 on the heavyweight list, he’s decided to stick with his trainer Shadeed Suluki and even Barrie Hearn has offered to make fights for Audley, His plans are to make a comeback in may according to his web page article.

I will be hard for Barrie Hearn to promote Audley Harrison as a boxer especially as he is seen as a joke and laughing stock to most fans of the sport, whoever he gets he will face problems trying to negotiate with them.

When thinking of the subject it’s hard to see anyone who would want to fight Audley and that being someone who would move Audley back near or even into the top 20. David Tua might be too dangerous for him, Denis Boystov hasn’t fought since November but would he be willing to someone of no significance and I’m not even sure he could get or even beat Evander Holyfield despite his age and weariness.

Most likely he’ll get someone like Monte Barrett, he seems to be enjoying getting a pasting lately 3 losses and 2 draws from his last 5, he might fancy Dominick Guinn the man who beat him over ten rounds in 2006, maybe even the man who acted as walking punch bag for twelves round against Vitlali Klitschko no other than Kevin Johnson.

All joking aside and getting serious for a bit, I don’t believe Audley is doing this for the money he might be punch drunk but he isn’t doing this for money I feel. Audley doesn’t even need to box really; he’s made a few million from the sport and with sponsorships and endorsements he isn’t going short of a few bob, by coming back he isn’t doing himself any favours, if he loses again he just makes himself look a bigger joke than he already is, so that’s worth considering.

I know people will laugh at this but I do want Audley to succeed, a gold medallist at the Olympics, all the natural tools to succeed as a heavyweight and a south paw too and not winning a world crown sure is a bad way to end a career.

Personally come back, but realistically Audley should stay out of the sport and enjoy his life. Whatever Audley does he needs to train hard, put together a winning streak and fight every 3 months or so to get at least a contender spot. Thoughts whether you agree or not always welcome.
