By Sean McDaniel: IBf/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) has a lot to worry about in his July 2nd bout according to his opponent WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s). To most boxing fans, Wladimir is the best heavyweight in the world, but to Haye, he’s just another one of his opponents that he’s going to knock out quickly.

Haye said this in an interview at thesun.co.uk: “He [Wladimir] won’t know how to react [once he gets hurt by Haye], will panic, attempt to run for cover and then realize big brother Vitali is in the corner mopping up tears with a white towel.”

Haye is expecting Wladimir to go to pieces mentally when he starts putting the leather on him on July 2nd in their fight at the Imtech stadium in Hamburg, Germany. Haye sees this because he noted how Wladimir seemed to fall apart when hit hard in defeats to Corrie Sanders, Lamon Brewster and Ross Puritty in the past. Haye is going to try and make Wladimir relive that past by coming out fast and landing some big shots in close to hurt Wladimir and send him into a panic. Those fights were big upset losses for Wladimir.

The Haye-Wladimir fight is one in which Wladimir is a slight favorite going in. A Haye win won’t be seen as earth shattering event because Wladimir has already been exposed as having a weak chin and someone that can fold when pressured hard. However, except for the quick knockout loss to Sanders in 2003, the defeats to Purity and Brewster came only after Wladimir had unleashed a lot of punishment on those two fighters.

For Haye’s part, he was beaten by a 40-year-old Carl Thompson in a 5th round TKO loss in 2004. Haye started off quick thinking he was going to knock Thompson out and for three rounds Haye had his way with Thompson. However, when Thompson started fighting back in the 4th, he badly hurt Haye and then continued to hurt Haye in the 5th until Haye’s corner threw in the white towel to save Haye from knocked out. Haye was still on his feet at the time of the stoppage but in bad shape. He clearly would have been knocked out in the next round. His trainer saved Haye from being badly hurt by stopping the bout when he did.
