Dirrell says Froch has to outwork Johnson if he wants to win

By Scott Gilfoid: Top super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) chimed in one his thoughts on the upcoming June 4th Super Six tournament fight between WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) and 42-year-old Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s), saying on his twitter “All I know is Froch better fight young. He’s and old man so he needs to outwork him.”
Froch doesn’t really have a high work rate. He’s a fighter that gets by on trying to overpower his opponents. We saw what happens with Froch when he’s put in with someone that throws a lot of punches in his loss to Mikkel Kessler last year.

Froch got tired and got outworked by Kessler. I think the same thing can happen here if Johnson goes right at Froch and makes him fight harder than he wants to. Johnson can’t make the same mistake that Arthur Abraham did in his recent Super Six tournament fight with Froch. Abraham only attacked sporadically and allowed Froch to control the pace of the fight. Johnson would be crazy to let Froch control how fast he wants the fight to be fought at.

What you do with Froch is go right at him, get in close and don’t stop punching. It helps to have the blinding hand speed that Dirrell possesses, but it’s not necessary. Johnson can beat Froch just by throwing a lot of punches and staying really close to him. Froch will attempt to move a lot in the first three or four rounds, but his wheels are getting old and he doesn’t move well. Johnson can easily trap Froch into a war of attrition and make the Brit look like the older man on June 4th. The fight will be taking place at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This means that Froch won’t have his screaming British fans to root him on. That will help Johnson. You take Froch out of Nottingham and he’s very beatable.
