Image: Solis' promoter hopes Vitali will give Solis a rematch in 6 to 9 monthsBy Dave Lahr: Ahmet Oner, the promoter for Cuban heavyweight Odlanier Solis (17-1, 12 KO’s), is hoping WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) will give Solis a rematch in six to nine months after Solis has surgery and fully rehabs his right knee. The 30-year-old Solis has surgery scheduled for this Thursday to repair his badly damaged right knee, which sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, articular damage and meniscal tear.

The doctor who examined Solis’ right knee, Dr. Joern Michael, said “I haven’t seen a knee torn apart like this in a long time.” Just looking at the photo, you can see how much bigger his right knee is compared to his left and it looks really bad. Solis was controlling the fight against Vitali in the opening round, tagging him with shots when the injury occurred.

Solis points out that he didn’t feel the weak right hand that Vitali hit him with. It wasn’t much of a punch and more of a grazing, pushing type of shot that knocked Solis off balance, causing him to injure his knee.

Vitali made $15 million for the Solis fight, which would be a good reason for Vitali to consider a rematch with the Cuban star. Solis is going to be a star in the heavyweight division there is not doubt about it. But he just needs time to heal and the right fights for that to happen. Vitali can’t feel good about the Solis fight because he wasn’t doing well against Solis and was taking punishment when the injury occurred. If Vitali wants’ to prove that he’s the better fighter, he’ll fight Solis again in six to nine months to show that he is the better then him. I don’t think he is. Solis has incredible boxing skills and poise. Solis looked sensational in the one round of action before the injury.
