Mayweather doesn’t matter as much as he used to

By Tom David Drury: Floyd Mayweather has never endeared himself to the wider public, despite what he thinks, sure millions of people like to watch him because he is the best at what he does but as incredibly gifted he is as a boxer he has revealed himself many times as a charmless, arrogant, stereotyping fool. The most recent tasteless act was a video released on ustream deriding Manny Pcaquiao as a “little yellow chump” adding, “once I stomp the midget, ill make that **** make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice”.

Also he repeated his beliefs that Manny Paquiao uses performance enhancing drugs saying “Pacquiao took power pellets”. In my view the video is cringe-worthy, embarrassing and classless. The racial innuendos go on and on, the version i saw lasted almost 10 minutes. Mayweather has seemingly lost control, any sense of perspective is just a dot in the rear view mirror. He lives in a bubble surrounded by yes men. As we all know, no one likes the next paycheck more than a yes man who is prepared to swallow pride and turn a blind eye to things they know are not right. Floyd’s advisers are obviously in the wrong job as nobody of sound mind would have recommended he take part in a video like that. Floyd Mayweather strikes me as a man who stopped listening to wise council and advise a long time ago, Floyd only managed an apology for the video after been whipped from pillar to post by the media, and as everything he says you can call into question his sincerity.

As most boxing fans i have great respect for Floyd Mayweathers skills inside the ring, I now feel that respect has diminished, the last time Floyd took a break from boxing he generated income by tangoing on dancing with the stars and brandishing brass knuckles on a PPV wrestling extravaganza, This time it seems he is paying lawyers to deal with his legal problems and infuriating fans with the the classless, politically incorrect videos (above). Maybe Money Mayweather has embarked on a irreversible downward spiral, maybe not. But Manny Pacquiao’s last fight against Antonio Margarito underlined was Mayweather is dispensable. Boxing needs Floyd less than we used to.
