It’s unknown how far along the discussions are but hopefully they can get past the point where the first discussions stalled out and died last year.

Back then, the fight was close to being made but Pacquiao didn’t want to agree to the 14 day cut off for the random blood testing for performance enhancing drugs that Mayweather was asking for. This is something that Pacquiao will have to be willing to agree on if he wants the Mayweather fight. Bob Arum has said that there wouldn’t be any problem with Pacquiao taking the testing that Mayweather wants, but we’ll have to wait and see on that.

Beyond the testing for performance enhancing drugs, the purse split will be a major issue that will need to be settled. Mayweather will have to agree on a 50% even split of the revenue you would think for the fight to be made. However, the weight penalty, which was something that was part of the first contract, will be something that Mayweather may have a problem with.

Pacquiao has a fight coming up on May 7th against Shane Mosley. It’s a fight that will probably sell big because of the advertising that will be done on CBS to hype the fight. However, the bout figures to be a huge mismatch and will likely be more than a little disappointing for the fans that will be paying to see what they think will be a competitive fight. At 39, Mosley has seen his best days and he looks pretty well shot.
