Is David Haye going to take on a Klitschko Tag Team?

By Mark Hepplestall: The Haye Vs Klitschko circus is back in town, recent reports suggest Wladimir may have suffered another injury related to his possible previous injury he suffered in the week up to the first canceled Derek Chisora fight. This is a time when the majority of boxers would step back and lower the intensity of training to lower the risk of injury but apparently Wladimir doesn’t agree.

Anyway after canceling a second fight with Chisora, Wladimir set up a more lucrative fight with WBA champion David Haye. Now it seems Team Klitschko do not think that Wladimir will be ready to fight Haye but instead of disappointing the fans Wladimir is happy to allow the show to go on via making Haye fight Vitali instead.

Somehow I really do not expect Haye to sign the contract now, and I do not blame him, let’s break down why. Firstly Team Klitschko want Haye to fight either of them on July 2nd if Wladimir cannot make the fight, also Wladimir can pull out at any moment and Vitali will step in. The key word being Team Klitschko.

I am of the opinion that the Klitschko brothers choose their opponents in a manner which will make them look and perform better as they both have very different styles of fighting e.g. Vitali fights all the sluggers and big punchers such as Chris Arreola, Sam Peter, and Shannon Briggs. These guys would have a better chance due to Wladimir’s weak chin but have little chance against Vitali whereas Wladimir fights people such as Eddie Chambers, Ruslan Chagaev, Tony Thompson, Sultan Ibragimov who are quicker and more skilful and may make a harder fight for Vitali but inferior when compared to Wladimir. It’s not a foolproof system when considering all of their opponents but it could be applied to a great number of their opponents and credit where it is due they are great boxers who would be there and about at the top when compared to all of the greatest heavyweights of all time, but their fight and rematch system could be considered shady. When you think about it nobody has ever beat them both, Corrie Sanders had the perfect style to fight Wladimir but when he was forced to fight Vitali he failed miserably. Also Chris Byrd was lucky to fight and win against Vitali, yet in his next bout lost badly to Wladimir.

So now Haye is preparing for one style, Wladimir’s style is undone by a great inside game and Haye has a great inside game, even though I expect Wladimir to win a unanimous decision Wladimir’s chin could cause an upset in almost every round of the fight. You can almost relate the fight to Amir Khan Vs Marcos Maidana, as in everybody who knows boxing expects the more skilled boxer to win the fight but the instant equalizer of shear power could turn the fight on its head like Maidana did in the 10th.

However if Wladimir cannot fight for any reason then Haye has to get in the ring with another boxer with a totally different style and different set of weaknesses. Haye would no longer be able to go in gung-ho and try and “Bang out” a boxer with a suspect chin, now he will be fighting a guy nicknamed Dr Ironfist but maybe should be called Dr Ironchin. Instead now Haye’s best chance would be to take Vitali the 12 round distance and hope to win a decision, however nobody has ever out boxed a Klitschko to a decision and I doubt anyone ever will.

Lastly I would just like to point out that I am so annoyed with the Klitschko’s, I want to see these guys fight and If they do not fight I want to know the reason why and who to blame, but team Klitschko keep leaving Haye with a way out of the fight which could be argued as the correct decision e.g. Wladimir facing Derek Chisora making it harder for Haye to promote his fight, Injuries, now not truly knowing who he is fighting on July 2nd, must say if Haye doesn’t sign the contract for this reason I cannot argue with him as i wouldn’t take that fight/s.
