Image: Maidana starts training with Beristain for Morales fight on 4/9By Dan Ambrose: Knockout artist Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27 KO’s) has started his training with new trainer Nacho Beristain for his next fight against three-time world champion Erik Morales (51-6, 35 KO’s) on April 9th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 27-year-old Maidana decided to go with the experienced Beristain to get more of his wisdom as he goes into his fight against Morales for the vacant WBA light welterweight title.

This is a fight which will open a lot of doors for Maidana, because once has the WBA title in his possession, he will be able to leverage it to get potential unification bouts WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and the winner of the fight between Zab Judah vs. Kaizer Mabuza for the vacant IBF light welterweight belt. Maidana can pretty much forget about getting another fight against Amir Khan, because Khan will likely move up in weight to the welterweight division if he beats Bradley this summer in their talked about unification bout.

The only way that a fight between Khan and Maidana will happen is if Khan starts getting beaten a lot. In that case, he’ll have nowhere to turn for a big fight and will need someone like Maidana to try and get his career turned around again. That’s possible but not likely. Khan won’t volunteer to take the dangerous punching Maidana again because he barely beat him last time.

Morales is like a fighter on his last leg going into the Maidana fight. Morales looks to be too slender and weak to do much other than serve as a punching bag for Maidana for as long as the referee and his corner allows the fight to last. It’s going to be brutal, much worse than the beating Morales got in his last two fights against Manny Pacquiao.

It doesn’t really matter who trains Maidana. He’s going to beat Morales no matter what. He’s just too strong for him and it’s going be apparent immediately.
