Klitschko-Solis: Odlanier looking a lot trimmer but still too fat to beat Vitali

By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten heavyweight challenger Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s) is starting to look incredibly slim while training for his March 19th fight against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) at the Lanxess-Arena, Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Solis, 30, has been weighing in the low 260s in his recent fights, which is probably around 50 pounds too heavy for his 6’1″ height and frame.

However, Solis appears to be taking his training very seriously for his title challenge against Vitali, as he appears to have taken off a considerable amount of blubber from his frame. In looking at recent pictures, my guess is Solis is now weighing in the neighborhood of the 240s. Unfortunately, that’s still far too fat for him to have any chance of beating the huge 6’7″ 250 pound Klitschko.

Solis needs to trim off another 30+ pounds of pure blubber if he wants to have a chance against the big Ukrainian. The problem that Solis has now is that his training in the Sierra Nevada mountains is about to come to an end at the end of the month and I’m afraid that he won’t take off too much more weight in the next week. After the mountain training ends, Solis’ time at the fat farm will be effectively over and he won’t be able to take off the additional lard that he needs to trim from his flabby frame.

When you’re walking around with 60 pounds of extra blubber on your carcass, you’re not really in the position to be winning any kind of titles unless it’s the obscure kind that no one has ever heard of cares about. Solis really dug himself into a huge hole by putting on all that fat. That’s like trying to take off a huge jacket full of a fat in one training camp. It’s just not possible to burn off that kind of lard unless you start really early. Solis really needed two training camps back to back in the Sierra Nevada mountains to burn through all the fat that’s put on since his amateur days ended back in 2005.
