By Jim Dower: Zab Judah spoke with Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently, asking him if he plans on returning to the ring soon, but shockingly, Mayweather said he’s done and plans on taking a long break from boxing.

If you were hoping to see Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao get in the ring soon before Pacquiao retires, this is bad news. Pacquiao supposedly will be fighting for another two or three years, but he might not be still active by the time that Mayweather finally decides to start fighting again.

In an interview with On the ropes boxing radio, Judah said “I had seen Floyd yesterday and asked, Are you going to get back in there?’ Mayweather told me he’s finished. He said he was just going to chill. He’s thinking about taking a two year break and I mean listen. The man worked hard for a long time.”

Mayweather is facing a number of legal problems that could have him doing time in prison if he’s convicted. He has a court date in March, but it’s going to be awhile before we learn what’s going to happen with all the charges he’s facing.

As things are, Mayweather hasn’t fought since beating Shane Mosley last year in May. Mayweather looked as good as always in that fight, but he won’t stay at the level if he ends up doing time or spends two years away from action. He’s in his mid-30s now and his skills are going to start deteriorating soon.
