By Francisco Hernandez: Two more weeks are left before fans can watch what will surely be one of 2011’s most spectacular fights: Montiel vs. Donaire. Both fighters respect each other and consider each other extremely dangerous and are training like roman gladiators to withstand the rigors of the upcoming skirmish.

It is time to make a prediction of how the fight will turn out. Montiel supported by Father and brothers in his corner, Donaire by Robert Garcia. The fighters’ spring out of their corners, Nonito expects Montiel to come straight at him, and Nonito poises himself to counter punch. Montiel instead positions himself at mid distance from Donaire; both fighters are like deadly cobras facing each other, suddenly Montiel fires a lightning fast straight right, Nonito falls to the canvas. Nonito is up quickly, he looks more surprised than hurt. Nonito waits to counter- punch, expecting to catch Montiel as he comes in for the kill.

Montiel’s experience tells him Nonito is still dangerous, and could counterpunch if Montiel opens up; instead Montiel again poises himself at mid distance in front of Donaire. The situation is tense with both fighters trying to time each other. Montiel takes a chance and unleashes a left hook out of nowhere and Nonito hits the canvas again. The brave Filipino warrior gets up again, this time he is hurt, his face has a look of pain, his legs look disconnected. After the count, Montiel shoots out of the neutral corner and this time goes for the finish.

Nonito is against the ropes, covering up. Montiel is an expert finisher; he is hitting Nonito to the body and then looping punches to his head, going around Nonito’s guard. Montiel knows how to finish an opponent, he shoots a short right down the middle; this one really hurts Nonito, whose face is red with pain. The referee tries to give Donaire a chance at coming back, and allows the punishment to continue, but Montiel won’t let him off the ropes, Nonito refuses to fall, but is badly hurt, referee steps in and stops the fight in the last thirty seconds of the first round.
