Why are Khan’s fans so against him fighting Prescott? Are they protecting him?

By Scott Gilfoid: If you take a look around in various boxing forums and chat rooms, WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s most loyal diehard fans seem to be totally against Khan trying to avenge his 1st round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott (23-2, 19 KO’s). Almost to the last Khan fan, they want Khan to avoid this fight and instead take on someone like Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s), a light punching fighter that has never faced a world class opponent during his career. Khan vs. McCloskey is the equivalent of Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton.

My question is why are Khan’s fans protecting him from Prescott? I think we have a bunch of enablers who want to keep Khan facing soft opposition so that he doesn’t get knocked out again. Instead of pushing Khan to strive for bigger things, they want him to stay away from trying to avenge his defeat against Prescott. What’s up with these fans? Don’t they realize their beloved Lennox Lewis avenged his losses to Hasim Rahman and Oliver McCall. If Lewis was willing to do it, then why not Khan? I think I know the answer to that one. Fear.

They probably believe that Prescott will always be able to beat Khan, and that he would knock him out just as easily as he did before in 2008. And so what if he does? At least we’ll be able to put Khan in his proper category as a glass-jawed stiff instead of thinking he’s actually good. Isn’t better to find out the truth sooner rather than later. Do Khan’s fans like being tricked? It’s best to get the bad news sooner rather than waiting forever until Khan finally faces someone good and gets spanked again.
