Arum has Mosley by the short hairs, has options to promote his next bout

By Chris Williams: Should the unlikely happen and 40ish Shane Mosley pull off a shocking upset of Manny Pacquiao, never fear. Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, has options on Mosley’s next fight. What his means is that we will absolutely be seeing a Pacquiao vs. Mosley II bout immediately should Pacquiao get knocked cold by Mosley on May 7th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s not that Mosley wouldn’t gladly jump for joy at the chance of fighting Pacquiao, because he surely would – whether he wins or loses to him on 5/7. However, with Arum having options on Mosley, it makes it academic that we will be seeing a rematch between Pacquiao and Mosley if Shane pulls off the unthinkable.

In an article at the Manila Bulletin, Arum said “There is no rematch clause but I have an option” [on Mosley]. Arum went on to say that Mosley is “Somebody not to be taken lightly.” Arum doesn’t need to worry because Mosley will gladly fight Pacquiao again if he beats the Filipino, because that’s where Mosley will get the most money. There’s really no one else for Mosley to fight unless Floyd Mayweather Jr. were to suddenly get off the couch and call Mosley up. However, that’s not going to happen because Mayweather is tied up with legal problems, and even if he did come back, it wouldn’t be for a fight against Mosley. Mayweather already easily beat Mosley last year by a one-sided 12 round decision in May. Fans would be interested in a Mayweather vs. Mosley fight if Mosley were to beat Pacqiao, but Arum has control over Mosley’s next fight now. And that means it will be Pacquiao that Shane will be facing. But it doesn’t matter, because Mosley won’t win.
