Steward, the trainer for IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir, is understandably upset with the inability of Wladimir and Haye to put together a fight after three years of trying to get the fight to happen. Haye had a chance recently but walked away from negotiations after Wladimir decided to take a tune-up bout against Dereck Chisora on April 30th.

Steward said “Today we have the egos stopping the fights the public wants to see. We have the same problems with Klitschko-Gate and Mayweather-Pacquiao. Everyone wants to see David Haye meet Wladimir Klitschko. David has created the fight through hype. I want to see it too. David has fast hands, and has questions about his chin. There are questions as to whether Wladimir could handle Haye’s speed. What’s happening right now is simply hurting boxing, killing it.”

What Steward says is true. These fights not being made are really hurting the sport and it seems that the fighters are content with the good money that they’re able to make against lesser fighters and don’t want to take the risk of potentially getting beaten and ending up with smaller paydays in the future. It’s hard to say who is guilty in the Pacquiao-Mayweather and Wladimir-Haye negotiations, because it seems all of the fighters have been partially responsible at times for these big fights not getting made.
