Image: Mosley says his bout against Pacquiao will be a war, an exciting fightBy Jason Kim: While many boxing fans seem to be turned off towards the May 7th bout between Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao because of how shot the 39-year-old Mosley has been looking lately, Mosley himself disagrees. He says he’s not shot and sees his fight with Pacquiao ending up as an exciting one that will end with one of them being knocked out.

Mosley hasn’t had a good fight since his win over Antonio Margarito in January 2009. Mosley took the rest of the year off and didn’t fight again until losing a lopsided 12 round decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr in May of 2010. If you compare how Mosley looked in the Margarito bout and how he did in the Mayweather fight, it was like watching two different guys. Mosley had aged, not just physically in appearance but in terms of his fighting ability.

Mosley was now unable to fight hard for more than two rounds and did nothing after the 2nd round other stand in front of Mayweather and take shots. In Mosley’s next fight against Sergio Mora in September, Mosley again looked tired and ragged, missing wildly with shots and looking weak. Now Mosley is saying that his next fight against a fighter that is perhaps as good as Mayweather if not better will be a war and and an exciting fight.

It comes down to whether you believe Mosley or whether you trust your eyes from seeing how badly deteriorated he’s become in the last year. Growing old in boxing is terrible, as old as Mosley can’t afford to take long stretches of time off from the sport like he did between 2009 and 2010 and still expect to be the same fighter.

In an article at abs-cbn new, Mosley said this about his fight against Pacquiao: “It’s going to be a war, cause styles make fights. It’s going to be a really exciting fight. Manny has speed and power. I have speed and power.”
