Khan says Mayweather fight could happen in 12 to 15 months

By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan is still talking about facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. within 12 to 15 months if he can win his next fight in April and then beat the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley fight.

In looking at how badly Khan struggled in his last fight against Marcos Maidana in which Khan was staggered late in the fight and battered, it’s hard to see him beating Alexander or Bradley and then getting a Mayweather fight handed to him.

Speaking with Sky Sports News, Khan said “My dream is to fight the best out there. I want to be the best fighter in the world so to do that you have to beat the best out there. Floyd Mayweather is a guy that, in the future, it could happen, I’d never fight Manny Pacquiao but I want a big name. I’ve got this fight first on April 16, and then we move onto a unification fight with the winner of Devon Alexander and Timothy Bradley. Then maybe I move up to 147lbs. That Mayweather fight could happen in the next 12-15 months.”

Khan’s style of fighting involves a lot of running around the ring, fast punches thrown and then more running. Khan doesn’t stick around to do any in fighting, as he really has no inside game. If he can do this kind of fighting against Bradley or Alexander, he could possibly win a controversial decision because his flurries seem to impress the judges. He threw a lot of flurries against Maidana, but most of his punches hit air, yet the judges were impressed enough to give him a lot of rounds.
