How does Froch handle Glen Johnson’s power and skill?

Image: How does Froch handle Glen Johnson's power and skill?By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) was really questioning whether he would continue his boxing career if he were to have lost his last Super Six fight against Arthur Abraham in November. But to Froch’s good fortune, Abraham was softened up nicely by the talented Andre Dirrell, who sacrificed himself to get the win but who was forced to pull out of the Super Six tournament after being brutally fouled by Abraham after slipping to the canvas.

Froch was then able to beat the depleted Abraham and move into his semifinal Super Six bout against former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s). Froch is now high from the win over Abraham, and even talking about a hoped for match-up with Andre Ward in the finals. Sorry, but I see Froch coming down to earth on May 21st when he faces Johnson and finds himself getting beaten up by the 42-year-old warrior. This is going to be one of those humiliating losses, the kind that gets out of hand early and only gets worse as the fight moves into the later rounds. If Johnson doesn’t take Froch out with one of his looping power shots, like he did against his last Super Six opponent Allan Green, I see Johnson giving Froch a one-sided whipping for 12 rounds that will have Froch red in the face and furious at his inability to stop it and do something to change the course of the fight.

It goes like that sometimes. It doesn’t matter how angry, upset or frustrated Froch will get, he won’t be able to will himself to inject the needed talent in his body to beat Johnson. It simply comes down to Froch not having the talent needed to beat Johnson. When you don’t have it, you don’t have it. That’s just the way it is. Dirrell is a magnificent fighter, and would likely have things easy against a brute like Johnson, but with Froch, he’s meeting a stronger fighter than himself. It’s like he’s fighting a bigger, stronger mirrored image of himself and unable to beat himself. As such, I see Froch taking a humiliating and one so one-sided, even he will have to acknowledge it.
