Image: Haye will have to settle for Vitali if he wants to fight one of the KlitschkosBy William Mackay: With the news that IBF/WBO Wladimir Klitschko will be fighting Dereck Chisora on April 30th and then heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek in September, that pretty much finishes any chances for Wladimir to face WBA heavyweight champion David Haye during 2011. This mean that unless Haye wants to either alter his retirement plans at the end of the year, which he says he won’t do, then Haye is just going to have to settle for going after WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko instead of Wladimir. Vitali is perfectly willing to fight Haye in 2011.

In fact, Vitali is chomping at the bit to get at Haye and tear him to pieces for a lot of the comments he’s made towards him and his brother Wladimir. The question now is whether Haye will be interested in taking on Vitali. Haye has said again and again that he wants to fight Wladimir first, but that no longer seems possible now that Wladimir is effectively booked up for the remainder of 2011. Haye now needs to go after his secondary goal of Vitali Klitschko so that he can at least fight one of the Klitschko brothers before retiring at the end of the year.

Something tells me that Haye won’t do this, even though a fight between Haye and Vitali will possibly even bigger than Wladimir vs. Haye. It’s a fight that will make huge money and be something that would interest world wide audiences. All that needs to happen is for Haye to man up and agree to change his goal of facing Wladimir first. If not, then Haye will have to be content with facing guys like Ruslan Chagaev and whoever else Haye digs up before hanging up his gloves. I think Haye wants no part of Vitali and will avoid this fight even though it will theoretically make him millions. A normal person would do this in a second, but I think Haye is content with the money that he’s made in fights against John Ruiz, Nikolay Valuev and Audley Harrison and won’t want to take on Vitali and risk getting beaten up and humiliated.
