By Dan Ambrose: One guy that rarely gets mentioned when boxing fans and writers are appraising the best fighters in the cruiserweight division is WBA cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones (37-3, 29 KO’s). One of the reasons why the 38-year-old Jones is so often ignored by boxing fans is because he so rarely fights.

Although he’s held down the World Boxing Association cruiserweight title since beating Firat Arslan by a 10th round TKO in September 2008, the 6’4” Jones has only defended the title once, beating Russian contender Valery Brudov by an 11th round TKO last year in October.

If you saw that fight you’ll have noticed how Jones has this uncanny ability to throw nonstop punches. It’s pretty remarkable to watch Jones fight, because he just keeps throwing punch after punch without tiring in the least. He doesn’t throw with a lot of power and doesn’t have the most impressive physique you’ll ever see, but by sheer punch output, he’s able to overwhelm his opponents with shots.

Jones is helped also by having an excellent chin. He can take a heck of a shot without getting hurt. There are few fighters out there that can stand up to the kinds of massive amounts of shots that Jones to throw in a typical fight. I would favor Jones over champions like Marco Huck, Steve Cunningham and Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

I think Russian knockout artist Denis Lebedev might give him some problems because of Lebedev’s southpaw stance, huge power and his in and out fighting style. But beyond that fighter, I think Jones would run the table and beat the other top fighters in the cruiserweight division.
