By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten British heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) is still waiting and still wants his shot against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s), says Chisora’s promoter Frank Warren. And Chisora, 26, has a contract he signed for the canceled fight with Klitshko.
They were supposed to have fought recently, but with a week to go before the big bout, Wladimir suddenly back out, complaining of having torn his abdominal muscle. Since then, Wladimir has been talking about wanting to fight WBA heavyweight champion David Haye instead of Chisora.
However, Chisora is still an option for Wladimir in case the Haye fight doesn’t occur. Even if Wladimir does defeat Haye, there’s a chance that Wladimir will still fight Chisora in 2011. It would still be an interesting bout to see because Chisora is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, and he’s talked a good game in building the fight against Wladimir during their press conferences.
Chisora did an excellent job of creating excitement for the Chisora vs. Klitschko fight. It’s hoped that Wladimir will still fight him so that he didn’t get passed over and forgotten. If that turns out to be the case, Chisora needs to get busy and start collecting scalps in the top 15 in the world rankings if he wants to get a shot against the Klitschkos or Haye.
Chisora needs to pick off one or two big names like Alexander Povetkin, Odlanier Solis or Denis Boytsov if he wants to move up quickly in the rankings so that he can force one of the champions to fight him.
