Chisora vs. Klitschko: Will be swinging for the fences against Wladimir

By Dave Lahr: Unbeaten British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) knows what he has to do in his fight with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) on April 30th in Mannheim, Germany. Chisora knows that Wladimir has a glass jaw and that he falls apart mentally if you pressure him a lot. The good thing about fighting someone with as many fights on his record as Wladimir has is that Chisora will have been able to study all of Klitschko’s fights to notice his flaws.

With his three loss to Corrie Sanders, Ross Puritty and Lamon Brewster, Chisora has a lot of blue prints to follow to learn how to defeat the tall Klitschko. It’s almost overkill, really. All Chisora really needs to do is watch Wladimir’s fight with Purtity to see how Wladimir went to pieces mentally when Purtity kept pressuring him. Wladimir became totally unhinged mentally, and looked like he about to have a litter of kittens. Purtity just kept moving forward and patiently looking to land his shots.

Waldimir ran and ran and ran, eventually running out of gas. When Puritty finally caught up to Wladimir in the 10th, it was child’s play to stun him with a few big shots. Chisora will no doubt be doing the same thing, albeit with a slight twist. Chisora will be looking to not only walk Wladimir down but also getting inside and hammering him with power shots in close. If one of then make’s to the back of his head, well that’s way it goes. The referee will have to catch it or Wladimir’s going to be flopping around on the canvas like he was against Corrie Sanders and Samuel Peter.
