Image: Bradley defeats Alexander, says he wants Khan nextBy Jason Kim: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (27-0, 11 KO’s) did what he said he was going to do by going out and beating WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-1, 13 Ko’s) by a 10 round technical decision on Saturday night in Pontiac, Michigan. After a a series of headbutts, Alexander finally had too much, saying it hurt too much. The fight was stopped and it went to the scorecards, where Bradley won the bout.

Afterwards, Alexander, who some people felt he had quit, had this excuse “I never got a headbutt like that. He got a big head. It came in full force. You can’t work on a headbutt. We worked on boxing skills, but couldn’t stop his head. He didn’t stop me from using his skills.” I beg to disagree. I think Bradley used a lot more than his head to get the win, and I think Alexander needs to sit down on his sofa with a big cup of coffee and watch the fight with both of his eyes open because he clearly lost and the headbutts were no part in him losing. He simply didn’t do the things he needed to do to get the win. Bradley landed the better combination, threw the harder shots and was the aggressor throughout.

Bradley, speaking about his future plans, said “Amir Khan would be number one on my list. I want the fight fans to pick who I fight next.” It’s pretty clear that Khan is going to be number #1 on the list for Bradley. He fought well against Alexander, but not well enough to say that he belongs with Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bradley needed to fight a lot better to make an argument that he deserves to be with those guys. However, Bradley looks more than good enough to face and beat Khan. That’s the fight that fans now want to see. However, Alexander was talking about a rematch clause after the fight. It’s unclear whether it will allow Bradley one fight in between or if it will be an immediate rematch.
