Alexander-Bradley: This needs to be a one-time only fight

By Dan Ambrose: With ticket sales being reportedly very low this this fight January 29th fight and boxing fans largely ignoring it completely, WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) and WBO light welterweight champ Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) need to spare themselves and boxing fans by making this a one-time only shot and not be a fight that leads to multiple rematches that few boxing fans want to see.

Ticket sales thus far are reportedly to be below 1000 for the Pontiac Silverdome, in Michigan, and that suggests that this fight isn’t in demand by boxing fans. What this means is that if Alexander and Bradley are smart, they’ll both move on after this fight and look to accomplish other things.

The winner must fight or attempt to fight WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan so that they can show the world who the best fighter is in the division. As for the loser, he needs to go after someone like Lucas Matthysse, Zab Judah, Kaizer Mabuza, Marcos Maidana or Victor Ortiz. Those are the hot names in the light welterweight division. The fighters are unimportant.

Alexander, 23, doesn’t have much experience against quality fighters and as a seven year pro, he’s going to have to learn on the fly if he’s going to beat Bradley. Alexander can’t fight timidly like he did against Andriy Kotelnik in August 2010. Alexander has to really go after Bradley because he doesn’t stand a chance against him if he allows Bradley to get off first and set the direction of the fight. Bradley needs put pressure on Alexander and look for chances to land counter punches.
