Image: Khan needs to face his demons by trying to avenge his loss to PrescottBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s been two years now since Amir Khan was blasted apart by the hard hitting Colombian Breidis Prescott in one brutal round in 2008. Prescott beat Khan like an old shoe. It wasn’t even a fight for more than a few seconds before Prescott had Khan on spaghetti legs after hitting him with a hard jab to the head. It wasn’t much of a punch but it didn’t needed to be, because Khan’s chin failed him. Prescott then quickly dispatched Khan with some tremendous hooks to the head that left Khan flat on his back on the canvas counting stars.

Since that fateful day, Khan has mostly been softly matched against guys with either zero power or ones that he basically ran from all night long while winning a less than impressive decision. Khan hasn’t been interested in trying to avenge his defeat to Prescott and instead seems to have adopted a strange outlook that he would easily beat Prescott anyway in rematch and therefor it’s not worth it.

This reminds me of one of Aesop’s fables The Fox and the grapes. The Fox after attempting to reach the tasty looking grapes high up on the vine gives up and then expresses disdain for them, saying ‘Oh, you aren’t even ripe yet! I don’t need any sour grapes.’ What Khan is doing by not fighting Prescott and yet still saying it’s not worth because he would easily beat him anyway seems to me to be the classic case of the the Fox who couldn’t get the grapes, and then questioned their taste. I think Khan needs to face up to Prescott and whether he gets blasted out by him again at least he will have faced his fear. He can’t let the Prescott defeat haunt him for the remainder of his career. He’s got to man up and fight the guy. I expect Khan to stay away from Prescott for the remainder of his career at all costs and focus on fighting more light punchers to keep from getting knocked out. It probably won’t matter. He’s going to get knocked out sooner or later, so he might as well face Prescott now and have it done with.
