Froch-Johnson to take place in March or April – News

By Scott Gilfoid: The Super Six tournament semifinal clash between World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) and 41-year-old Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) will be taking place in either March or April next year, possibly in the United States. I’m not holding my breath on it taking place here, because Froch can likely make more money on this fight if he can find a large arena in his home city of Nottingham, England to put this fight in.

This is a fight that some boxing fans believe that Froch, 33, will win based on his easy 12 round decision win over his last opponent Arthur Abraham on November 27th in their stage 3 Super Six bout in Helsinki, Finland. Froch’s work rate was much better than Abraham, who looked like a shell shocked fighter even before the fight had started. Abraham had been easily beaten by American Andre Dirrell the fight previous to the Froch bout, and it looks like it may have taken something out of Abraham both mentally and physically. Abraham looked softened up for Froch from the damage that Dirrell had done to him their bout.

Johnson is going to really shock some people in the Froch bout, because he has the same kind of crushing power that Abraham possesses, but Johnson has a much higher work rate than Abraham. Indeed, Johnson is a nonstop punching machine who isn’t afraid to get hit. He’s going to keep coming forward, forcing Froch to fight really hard and throwing and landing shots all night long. I can see Johnson wearing Froch out and eventually either stopping him or wearing him out to the point where Johnson wins a decision. This is what Mikkel Kessler did in beating Froch earlier this year. Kessler just kept pressuring Froch until Froch ran out of gas and basically lost the fight. Johnson is going to ram his shots down Froch’s throat all night long and send him home a loser. The loss will knock Froch out of the Super Six tournament.
