Arum leaves the option to Pacquiao too choose among Berto, Marquez or Mosley

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says that Manny Pacquiao can select his next opponent for April 16th among these fighters: Andre Berto, Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez. But it’s clear that Arum wants it to be Mosley who Pacquiao fights, and Arum reportedly is going to let Pacquiao who his own preference is.

Since Pacquiao generally defers to Arum when picking out his opponents, it’s pretty much academic at this point that it’s going to be the 40ish Mosley that gets picked for Pacquiao’s next fight. In that regard, I think Mosley is perfect for Pacquiao, because he’s arguably an even lesser threat than Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey, Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton at this late stage in Mosley’s career.

This will be a nice easy win for Pacquiao and it will give Pacquiao another scalp to add to his resume, even if it’s an old one. The HBO 24/7 series will likely do a great job of making it seem as if Mosley is still what he used to be. As long as they don’t show any highlights of Mosley’s one-sided defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his horrible performance in his last fight against Sergio Mora, fans might be interested in buying this mismatch.

I just hope that Arum discounts it by two-thirds to make up for Mosley’s deterioration so that fans don’t have to pay the full price for what is almost guaranteed to be a huge mismatch. I’d pay $5 to see Pacquiao vs. Mosley, but not more than that because it’s not going to be a competitive fight.

I’d pay the asking price for Pacquiao vs. Marquez or Pacquiao vs. Berto, but not against Mosley. That’s not even a fair fight at this point in Mosley’s career.
