Hoping Pacquiao gets knocked cold by Margarito

By Chris Williams: I’m really hoping Manny Pacquiao gets knocked out tonight by Antonio Margarito. I don’t want Margarito to merely pound on Pacquiao for 12 rounds, because I honestly don’t think Margarito can win a decision over the Filipino fighter unless Margarito knocked Pacquiao down at least 4 times in the fight in separate rounds.

I can’t see the judges giving Margarito a decision. I’d prefer Margarito to make Pacquiao’s suffering last as long as possible, but I don’t trust that the judges would get the scores right and would give Pacquiao the decision. But by knocking Pacquiao out cold where he’s lying there on the canvas with both eyes shut tight, it will leave no question who the better fighter is.

Yeah, I expect Freddie Roach, his trainer, and all Pacquiao’s lovesick fans to come up with excuses for Pacquiao’s loss, but I doubt anyone will be listening to them. The casual boxing fans will be heaping tons of praise on Margarito for beating the stuffing out of Pacquiao and giving the world a short break from seeing Pacquiao beating up on over-matched opposition.

It’ll be a good thing if Margarito whips him bad, because then we’ll get a rematch between Pacquiao and Margarito. And if Margarito destroys Pacquiao again, it will put the final exclamation point on Pacquiao being overrated by fans. At the same time, it will keep Pacquiao from winning an 8th paper world title. That’ll be good.

Maybe Pacquiao will then choose to fight someone like Sergio Martinez instead when he goes for his next title instead of facing Margarito. Pacquiao never fought Juan Manuel Marquez again after their second fight when Pacquiao won what many felt was a gift decision. Pacquiao may do the same thing and choose not to fight Margarito again rather than tempt fate and get whipped again.
