The Haye- Harrison farce

By Dallan o’ Donnell: Billed as the best of enemies, but if we were to base a title around the first two rounds of this Heavyweight world title fight it would have to be “Best of Friends”. For a world title fight i was bitterly disappointed to see two fighters stand off each other and throw nothing. The Manchester crowd had every right to show and air their displeasure as did the viewers at home including me who paid good money for a fight that basically never showed up.

Both Haye and Harrison promised big things, that they would stand up and fight but they could not keep this promise. Not a single punch landed in the opening round and when have we ever seen a statistic like that in a world title fight? It was a disgrace to have this fight on pay per view, if we can call it a fight. Harrison was always overmatched against Haye and this has probably ended his disappointing career.

In Britain they call Audley by his alter ego Fraudley which is fitting for tonight but another fraud was across the ring in Haye. After the fight Haye talked with Sky’s Adam smith and exclaimed that he and his family had “alot” of money on the third round. This, in my eyes, seems to have been more of a money making scheme than an actual fight.

George Groves, David Haye’s stable mate fought on the undercard and was extremely lucky to have come away with a TKO victory after being down he showed tremendous heart to win, but he looks nowhere ready for a clash with James Degale or Paul smith.

The most exciting part of the whole night for me was not the firework display at the end, which was more entertaining than the fight itself, but it was when Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno appeared in the ring together both great and entertaining fighters and we would have gotten more entertainment out of a re run of their Heavyweight clash. My final judgement on the fight if i was to sum it up in word would be terrible.

Although in previous articles I exclaimed a Haye victory within four I expected more in the way of an actual fight. After this performance from Haye you would have to think both Klitschkos brothers are at home chomping at the bit to fight Haye now, and I would have to give both of them the upper hand.
