By Daniel Tagg: The U.S.A used to dominate the world of boxing, that’s not the same today. I have made a list of American world champions from the 4 main boxing belts, they are the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO.

The WBC is the most prestigious of all belts and the U.S.A has two champions who hold that belt, they are Andre Berto won 26 (KO 20) lost 0 (KO 0) KO% 76.92 (welterweight) and Devon Alexander won 21 (KO13) lost 0 (KO 0) KO% 61.9 (light welterweight) . That’s just 2 fighters from 17 categories.

The WBA is another of the top 4 belts and the U.S.A has only 1 world champion in the form of Andre Ward won 22 (KO 13) lost 0 (KO 0) KO% 59.09 (super middleweight). 1 world champion from 17 weights.

The I.B.F is another of the top belts but isn’t the most desirable, this is where the U.S.A has at the moment most of there success. There are 4 world champions from the U.S.A, they are Steve Cunningham won 23 (KO 12) lost 2 (KO 0) KO% 48 (cruiserweight) and Tarvis Cloud won 21 (KO 18) lost 0 (KO 0) KO% 85.71 (light heavyweight) and Cory Spinks won 37 (KO 11) lost 6 (KO 2) KO% 25.58 (light middleweight) and finally Brian Viloria won 27 (KO 15) (lost 3 (KO 1) KO% 46.88 (flyweight) . that is 4 world champions from 17 weights.

Then we have the WBO, this is the last of the top belts and the U.S.A has only one world champion and that is Timothy Bradley won 26 (KO 11) lost 0 (KO 0) KO% 40.74 (light welterweight).

There you have it folks 8 world champions from 68 possible world champion spots available, the boxers here are not really great boxers some good and a few world class fighters, these days you have to be unimpressed by the amount of American world champions, taking into consideration the wealth of people and the history of American boxing.

How long will it be before China, India and Africa starts to dominate the world stage.
