Timothy Bradley signs contract for Alexander bout

By Chris Williams: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) finally signed the contract to take on WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) for a fight that will be taking place on January 29th.

The bout will be shown on HBO, and I hope it’s a lot better than Bradley’s last two boring fights against Lamont Peterson and Luis Carlos Abregu. Bradley and Alexander should have fought ages ago, and I lost patience and pretty much any interest I ever had in this fight already. It would have been a decent – not great – fight six months ago, but all this time has gone by and Bradley has looked dull, and Alexander even worse.

I don’t really care who wins this fight at this point, because I see the winner of this bout as the number #4 light welterweight in the division behind Victor Ortiz, Marcos Maidana and Amir Khan.

Alexander looked absolutely horrid in winning what many boxing fans felt was a home town decision over former World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik in August in a fight that took place in Alexander’s home city of Saint Louis, Missouri.

Alexander was jabbed and pounded on by Kotelnik the entire 2nd half of the fight and I think he should have lost. Whatever the case, the winner of the Bradley-Alexander fight will likely take on the winner of the Khan-Maidana bout in December. It’s not a sure thing, though, but that’s the general idea.

Bradley and Alexander want to be boxing super stars, but I haven’t anything from them that would suggest that they’re anything more than a couple of temporary title holders. I just hope their fight isn’t boring. It probably will be, so I’ll have some strong coffee ready just in case.
