How good would Dirrell be if he had Mayweather’s brain?

By Dan Ambrose: Can you imagine you how good of a fighter Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) would be if he had Floyd Mayweather’s brain inside of his own body. Dirrell has amazing hand speed, good power and excellent size for a super middleweight. The only thing that seems to be missing is composure under fire. Dirrell seems to go to pieces at times when under heavy pressure. Dirrell showed fear in fights against Curtis Stevens, Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham. He won’t two of those fights, but he really stank up the joint in the Froch and Stevens fights.

I still remember the fight against Stevens in which Dirrell ran around the ring all night long, mainly jabs and trying not to get hit. I thought that would be the last time that he would ever be televised on Showtime. However, they stuck with the 2004 Olympic Bronze medalist and he ended up as a minor star in the Super Six tournament until pulling out of the tournament recently due to lingering symptoms of neurological problems stemming from the Arthur Abraham’s foul of him in the 11th round of their fight in March.

If Dirrell had Mayweather’s brain, I think his fights with Stevens, Abraham and Froch would have been so different. He would have actively gone after these fighters much more and would have likely been a lot more cooler under fire. I can see Dirrell beating all of them and having a good shot at beating Andre Ward if he would stay off the ropes and avoid infighting. Of course, Mayweather is an excellent inside fighter, so if Dirrell had Mayweather’s brain he wouldn’t have to worry about being mugged by Ward in close. He would be a nightmare for Ward whether on the inside or the outside. It’s too bad Mayweather’s brain couldn’t be inside Dirrell’s body because the guy would be an amazing fighter with his reflexes, hand speed and ability to move and avoid punches.
