The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will still happen

Image: The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will still happenBy Dave Lahr: As much as some of Manny Pacquiao’s fans seem to be denying the possibility of a bout between him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. now that Floyd is being skewered by the media for his racist-filled video, they’re still going to be fighting at some point in the near future. The reason is simple – money.

Mayweather brings in the most amount of money compared to any of the potential opponents that his promoter Bob Arum could put in with. Pacquiao will make more money and get a lot more attention by fighting Mayweather than he will by fighting Arum’s stable fighters over and over again.

I may be wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure that Arum is going to still be trying to put together a fight with Mayweather next year. So what if Mayweather has called Pacquiao some names. He’s still probably going to try and put this fight together because of the huge money it can still generate.

Obviously, it’s hurt the fight that it hasn’t been put together by this time but both fighters are to blame for that happening. It’s not just Mayweather’s fault. The fight could have been made during the first negotiations but Pacquiao held firm at not wanting random blood testing within 24 days of the fight.

Pacquiao can always tell Arum that he doesn’t want to fight Mayweather, but Pacquiao seems to have been letting Arum pick out the opponents during his career and I can’t see that changing now unless Pacquiao is really upset about Mayweather’s video.

I think Pacquiao’s fans, most of them, will want him to fight Mayweather even more now so that he can take out his frustrations by beating him up in the ring. Who knows? Mayweather might even be more eager to make the fight happen now that he’s getting dumped on by everybody now.

Mayweather has got to know that he doesn’t have much more time to make this fight happen. He can’t waste any more time if he wants to get the huge payday that comes with fighting Pacquiao.
