Froch injured his back while training recently and had to postpone his October 2nd fight against Abraham until either November or December, depending on how well Froch’s back is coming along.

Abraham doesn’t like the wait, saying “What’s the problem with him? No one rally knows. I want this fight to be re-scheduled as soon as possible. We can’t afford to lose time. A boxing career is too short, and I want to fight every three months. It is very tough waiting. Right now, the battle between us is mental, because we are evenly matched.” Froch has been overly concerned about the Abraham fight from day one, starting with the venue.

Froch had originally been under the mistaken impression that the fight would take place in Nottingham, England. But when he found out that Abraham’s promoters wanted to have the fight take place in Berlin, Germany, Froch immediately began protesting. He felt that he couldn’t win a decision over there, and he had already just been beaten by Mikkel Kessler in a fight that took place in Kessler’s home country of Denmark.

After a long period of negotiations, the two fighters finally agreed to have their bout take place in Monaco on October 2nd. All looked good until Froch suffered a back injury while training recently. Now, it’s unclear when Froch’s back will be healed sufficiently for him to get back in the ring, but the hopes are the fight will go ahead in late November or mid-December. Froch won his first fight of the Super Six tournament with a 12 round split decision win over Andre Dirrell last year in October.

However, Froch had big problems in his fight with Kessler, and seemed to lack the stamina to fight hard for the full 12 rounds of the fight. Froch will have to fight much better than that against Abraham, because he hits a lot harder than Kessler and if he’s able to land his punches with any kind of consistency, Froch may end up either getting knocked out or badly cut up.
