Will Haye want to fight Adamek now after seeing how bad he looked against Grant?

By Matt Stein: World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye may or may not fight Audley Harrison in his next fight in November. However, if he doesn’t go ahead and fight the 38-year-old Harrison, he may be now licking his chops at the prospects of fighting heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek after the Polish heavyweight looked underwhelming in a 12 round decision win over Michael Grant last Saturday night. Adamek was repeatedly hurt by a slow punching Grant, who threw very few punches in the fight. and yet still ended up hurting Adamek several times.

After the fight, Adamek said that he’s interested in getting back in the ring quickly and wants to be back in action by November if his two cuts are fully healed by then. Haye just so happens to be rumored to be fighting in November against a still to be determined opponent. If Haye still hasn’t signed on for the Harrison fight, he may want to hold off on that bout for now and look to take on the more popular Adamek. That would be a fight that would be interesting for boxing fans not just in the UK, but also in the United States due to the large following that Adamek has over there.

It would be a win-win situation for Haye, because not only would he be taking on more popular fighter in Adamek, but he also would have a lesser threat with Adamek than he would win Harrison. Adamek showed that he’s not much of a puncher now that he’s fighting at heavyweight. In contrast, Harrison can still pop a bit with his left hand and if he were to load up with one of his big left uppercuts, he could end up taking Haye out. Haye can always go back and fight Harrison after he’s wiped out Adamek. But Haye needs to take on the more popular fighter first rather than focusing exclusively on Harrison.
