Is Adamek ready to fight the Klitschkos or should he fight Odlanier Solis first?

By Jason Kim: I think you might have to really close your eyes to all of Tomasz Adamek’s glaring flaws from last Saturday’s fight against Michael Grant if you were to consider Adamek ready to fight either of the Klitschko brothers. Adamek clearly wants to fight them and obviously get the nice payday that goes along with it, but is he ready for that kind of test? What I saw of Adamek in that fight, I don’t think he’s ready and I wonder whether he ever will be. I’ve now seen Adamek get shook up by shots from the light hitting Jason Estrada, Chris Arreola and now the 38-year-old Grant. None of those fighters are even close to being as capable and as powerful as the Klitschko brothers.

The Klitschkos are worlds better than those guys, and that’s why I don’t think Adamek is ready for that kind of fight right now. I think Adamek would be better served to have a little more experience under his belt before taking on one of the Klitschko brothers. An ideal opponent would be former 2004 Olympic heavyweight Gold Medalist Odlanier Solis (16-0, 12 Ko’s), who has fast hands and excellent power. This isn’t an opponent would plod around the ring all night long, throwing five or six punches per round like Grant did last Saturday night. Adamek would be getting hit a lot more often and he’d have to prove that he has the talent to take those shots and return fire to get Solis to back off.

I think the Grant was a total waste of time. For those people that think it helped Adamek prepare for what he would face against the klitschko brothers, I think they’re hallucinating. There’s no comparison whatsoever in the kind of shots that the Klitschko brothers would be raining down on Adamek all night long compared to the occasional punch that Grant tagged Adamek with. This is why I think it was a dumb fight and all it did was expose Adamek as being an undersized heavyweight with inadequate power and a weak chin. Adamek needs to take on Solis and learn more about how to deal with the better heavyweights in the division, and not the guys that he’s been feasting on since moving up in weight.
