Image: Don King picks Mayweather to knock Pacquiao outBy Dave Lahr: The wise promoter Don King knows talent when he sees it, and he knows already who’s going to win the proposed bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao next year, if he’s successful in putting it together that is. In an article at the Lon Times, King had this to say about the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight: “I’m not looking to do a deal just for [the Pacquiao fight]. I’m looking for him to be with me and for Pacquiao to be part of it. They are the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world but Mayweather will knock Pacquiao out. Pacquiao has two chances: slim and none. And Slim just left town.”

I absolutely agree with intelligent King. Pacquiao will be knocked out when/if he fights Mayweather in the future. I just hope King can put the fight together because I no longer have any faith in Bob Arum putting it together after he failed twice already.

We need an outside person like King to step in and get these two fighters to come together for some kind of an agreement about the blood testing and the financial split. I think Mayweather deserves a 60-40 deal unless Pacquiao prove otherwise by coming up with some outstanding pay per view numbers against Antonio Margarito on November 13th.

But if Pacquiao doesn’t get the big numbers for that fight and ends up with something in the neighborhood of 700,000, like he did against Joshua Clottey last March, then I think Mayweather deserves the 60-40 split in his favor.

As for the random blood testing, Pacquiao needs to take the full blood testing without any cutoff like the one that he’s been crowing about for so long. We’re talking the textbook version of random blood testing all the way up to the minute that the fight starts. They need to be drawing blood nonstop and going over the results with a fine tooth comb. That’s how it should be done.
