Image: Dirrell-Ward, Froch-Abraham, Kessler-Green predictionsBy William Mackay: The next stage of the Super Six tournament should be a little more interesting with some of the best matches, at least on paper, in the tourney. Without a date set, the fight between former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch vs. Arthur Abraham should take place in September, unless Froch holds out hoping to land a fight in Nottingham or some other venue more to his liking. Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward face each other in an all American battle.

And finally WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler will be fighting recently beaten Allan Green in September. At this point in the Super Six tournament, some of these fighters can no longer afford to lose if they want to make it to the semi finals. Dirrell, Green, Froch and Kessler are in must win situations.

Froch vs. Abraham: I’m going to go against the wide belief that this fight is going to be a close and competitive one, but saying I think Abraham is going to blow Froch out of the ring long before the fight gets competitive. I think the fight would be competitive if Abraham was to take things slowly, not throw many punches and just look to block shots until later in the fight. But I think Abraham is going to be fighting with a lot of anger from his last fight against Dirrell, and will be wanting to make up for that loss by making an example of Froch by knocking him cold. I don’t think Froch will even have chance in this fight before Abraham knocks him out with a single shot to the head.

Kessler vs. Green: Kessler is coming off an impressive hard fought fight against Froch in a fight where Kessler defeated Froch by a 12 round decision and captured his WBC title in the process. Green showed little in his recent loss to Ward, and looked to be way over his head in that fight. I suspect that Green will be equally over his head against the highly skilled Kessler. If you look at Green’s fights against Tarvis Simms and his fight against Ward, he just was not busy enough to get the win. I see Kessler outworking Green and winning a comfortable 12 round decision.

Ward vs. Dirrell: This may turn out to be the best fight in the Super six tournament if Dirrell can step up his offense by throwing more punches than he’s done in his first two fights in the Super Six. I see this fight as being a replay of Roy Jones Jr. vs. Bernard Hopkins. Dirrell has a fighting style and hand speed very similar to Jones, whereas Ward is like a young Hopkins. I think Dirrell won’t make the same mistakes as Allan Green did by hanging on the ropes and working on the inside against Ward. I think Dirrell has a very real chance of beating Ward by a decision if he can avoid slugging it out with him for any length of time.
