By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko wants to get a chance to beat WBA heavyweight champion David Haye so that he can give the Brit a severe beating for his past trash talking. In an article at the Ring Magazine, Wladimir says “I said I wanted to make Haye’s face into a pizza. Now I want to make his face into a pepperoni pizza with salami and ketchup on it.” Unfortunately, the chance of Wladimir being able to even get shot at fighting the 29-year-old Haye appears to be growing dimmer as the days pass.
Haye, despite talking incessantly about wanting to fight Wladimir, is now looking at a possible fight against 38-year-old Audley Harrison rather than taking a risky fight against Wladimir or his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.
Wladimir says “Now that I’m 34, I feel at my peak. I’ll just work my way forward. I have no set time to retire. I hear David Haye says he’s going to retire at 31, because he’s a pussy.” Ouch! Wladimir is really aiming for the gonads with that one. I sure hope Haye does step up to the plate finally and take on Wladimir or at least his 38-year-old brother Vitali, but I’m not holding my breath on that happening.
I think Haye is content to milk his WBA title against the mostly mediocre opposition that the WBA has ranked in their top 15. I think their ranking is pretty messed up if you ask me. I see only a small handful of fighters there that should be ranked in the top 15 at all. With that kind of opposition, Haye could probably milk his title for all he’s worth until he’s at least 35 before he finally gets his chin tapped by someone that can punch a little.
