Image: Cotto-Foreman: Miguel ready to rebound his career but could Yuri be too much at 154lbsBy Peter Wells: Miguel Cotto has been here before, in a must win situation after coming off a tough, brutal knockout defeat. Last time he succeeded but against a fighter at his own preferred weight and a fighter that lost the fight as much as Cotto won it. This time though he is taking on a tough Jewish world champion at a higher weight class and a fighter who is strong for 12 rounds and has underrated power. Yuri Foreman is coming off his biggest victory to date, defeating WBA Light Middleweight champion, Daniel Santos, after flooring the former champ twice.

Miguel started out as a Light Welterweight, while Forman has been at 154lbs his entire professional career. He sometimes brings a very unattractive fight style. He tends to punch and hold, but can sometimes give the fans a little something. Cotto on the other hand, is aggressive and if new trainer Emmanuel Steward can get Cotto back to his boxer-fighter style then he can be clever and exciting at the same time, and he can dish out one hell of a punch as well, especially the left to the body, I’d love him to go downstairs again tonight, like he did when he stopped British Michael Jennings, those body shots where superb.

Power: It is very tough to decide who has the most power, Miguel Cotto would be the pick if you went Pound-for-pound, but at Light Middle it’d have to be Yuri Foreman. But we’d have to see on fight night. I honestly thought apart from height and the small weight gap, that Miguel Cotto looked the bigger fighter. Yuri looked in good shape round the body but is known to be quiet a slim fighter, while Miguel was pure muscle and looked very big especially in his upper body.

Speed: Well Foreman is very hard to catch and can throw quick combinations, but some of his fights can be so slow it just makes him look quicker than he is. Cotto is you went back to his old days before he became a head down, hands up slugger, was quiet quick with his combinations and is very quick to unleash his big power shots.

Skills: Well both fighters can box, but Foreman has a range of skills to neutralise an opponent, like hitting and moving or holding. Cotto though is very talented and throws a variety of lovely combinations, he can also box superbly.

The big problem for Cotto is whether he has recovered enough from 3 gruelling wars, he’s been downed by lesser punches, like Ricardo Torres. He could be on the slide and there may be no way back up. As for Foreman has his victory over Daniel Santos been blown out of proportion, who else has he beat at top level. Is he a strong enough Light Middleweight to beat Miguel and how will he cope with Cotto’s big variety of punches and can he keep of the ropes?

People may not agree with my prediction, but I see Foreman hitting and moving early, but after 5 rounds Cotto will start getting through to Yuri, once he can get Foreman on the ropes then he’ll be able to wear him down from body to head and Cotto will stop Foreman in the last quarter of the fight.
