Image: David Haye silences criticsBy Craig Macguinness: Saturday night saw David ‘the Hayemaker’ Haye stop John ‘the quite man’ Ruiz in Round 9 of the World Boxing Association heavyweight title clash. Haye has received much criticism regarding his chin, fighting style, and whether he could handle a true heavyweight in John Ruiz. David Haye Provided a great spectacle and an exciting fight even against some would say a boring fighter such as Ruiz. Haye knocked Ruiz to the ground with a thunderous straight right within 20 seconds of the first round.

Ruiz has only been knocked down once before by David Tua over 14 years ago. The way Ruiz got up and fought throughout the fight was a testament to the heart and durability of the man, Ruiz took some big shots throughout the fight and was still standing by the time the towel was thrown in, in round 9. Haye was far too fast and utilized his jab with great affect, while throwing fast powerful shots continually hurting Ruiz throughout the fight.

Some may now say Ruiz is old and shot but in Ruiz previous 4 fights has looked rejuvenated and in a 50+ fight career has never been beat in the manner that David Haye did on Saturday night. Next for Haye must be a unification bout against either Klitchko’s any other fight for Haye is or the Klitchko’s is a cop out. The Klitchko’s however are a completely different prospect to John Ruiz.

John Ruiz is a good fighter to show that David can really mix it with the top heavyweights but the Klitchko brothers will be very awkward for Haye. I think Wlad is the easier fight and i really don’t think he can take the shots haye can give out. Vitali will be the tougher fight due to his granite chin and pure strength it will be interesting if Haye can go Twelve rounds with the pressure that Vitali can apply.

Either way the heavyweight division has been kicked into life and i cannot wait for these future bouts. Nobody can doubt the power and speed of Haye and that he Destroyed John Ruiz with more excitement in one fight than the entire careers of his eastern European counterparts in the Klitchko brothers.
