This could be a plus for Cotto, whose career has been floundering in the past couple of years as he’s been beaten two out of his last four fights.

Steward is known for training taller fighters like Lennox Lewis, Tommie Hearns and Wladimir Klitschko. Whether Steward will be able to make any positive changes with Cotto remains to be seen. Cotto has been stopped by Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao, and didn’t look impressive in beating Joshua Clottey last year by a 12 round split decision in June. Steward needs to teach Cotto how to avoid getting hit so much, because he’s began to take a lot of punishment in his fights.

First of all, though, Steward will have to prepare Cotto on how to deal with Yuri Foreman, Cotto’s next opponent. Cotto, 5’7”, will be giving away four inches in height and five inches in reach to the bigger Foreman. On paper, this is a bad style match-up for Cotto, because Foreman likes to hit and run. Foreman also likes to clinch a lot after throwing punches. Foreman fights somewhat like Bernard Hopkins, and can both box and punch when he wants to.

Steward will have to come up with a good plan for Cotto in this bout for Cotto to come up with a win. If Cotto is fighting at his best, he could end up taking another loss. With the punishment that Cotto has taken in his fights with Margarito, Clottey and Pacquiao, it’s not known how much more he has left in the tank.

At 29, Cotto has been in a lot of wars and needs to try and put more emphasis in preventing from getting hit so much. The good thing he has going for him in this fight is that Foreman isn’t a real big puncher like Margarito and Pacquiao. But Foreman showed respectable power in beating Daniel Santos in his last fight. What made Foreman’s power seem more impressive was how he would load up every once in awhile with an especially big shot. He caught Santos off guard with his power shots every now and then and seemed to hurt him.
