And I will”By Scott Gilfoid: A usual, World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-0, 20 KO’s) is confident about his chances against Mikkel Kessler (42-2, 32 KO’s) on April 24th at the MCH Messecenter Herning, in Herning, Denmark. Froch says in an article at Express.co,”A lot has been made of the fact that Kessler has never lost on home soil, at least not as a professional, but records are there to be broken. Andre Dirrell was unbeaten when I faced him and so was Jean Pascal. Taking on and beating the best fighters in the word has always been my ambition. I don’t want second-rate fights against second-rate boxers.”

Froch beat Dirrell by a controversial decision, which Carl fails to point out here. Technically, Froch got the win but it wasn’t a conclusive win in the minds of many boxing fans, a lot of which who saw Dirrell as winning the fight. Pascal mostly had his way with Froch in the first half of their fight in December 2008, but Pascal completely ran out of gas in the 2nd half of the fight and basically gave the fight away to Froch due to the fatigue that set in.

“Kessler is a brilliant fighter who has only ever lost twice in many years as a pro, to Joe Calzaghe, when he broke his hand a week before the fight and Andre Ward,” Froch says. “He [Kessler] is fiercely proud and he knows this is his chance to get back to winning ways. I have to stop him. And I will.” I think it’s highly unlikely that Froch will come anywhere close to stopping Kessler on April 24th. That said, it might be Froch’s only chance of beating Kessler.

If this fight winds up going to decision, if Froch hasn’t knocked Kessler down more than once in the fight, then I see Kessler winning it. This isn’t because I think Kessler will get any kind of hometown decision or anything like that. I just think Kessler will wind up out-boxing Froch because of his better boxing skills and end up dominating Froch. Kessler has the superior jab and left hook.

I think Froch might have a better right hand than Kessler, but not by much. But what good is Froch’s right hand if he can’t land it often enough for it to matter? Kessler is going to be jabbing Froch silly all night long, hitting him and moving, hitting him and moving. Froch will have to really go all out and hope for the best in the last part of the fight if he’s to have any chance at all in winning. I frankly don’t think Froch can. The Danish crowd, all 10,000 of them, will be screaming madly with every punch Kessler throws in the fight and this in turn will encourage him even more to put a serious hurting on Froch.

Froch says “I know how much Kessler wants my title and yet I feel I’m really in my prime. At least Kessler won’t run all night like Dirrell, who stank the place out when I fought him.”

Dirrell stank the place out? I think Froch has that wrong. It was Dirrell who fought magnificently against Froch, showing brilliant boxing skills and putting on a defensive clinic. It might have been hard for Froch with him missing all night long with his punches, but that was because Dirrell was so excellent at making him miss. Dirrell staggered Froch in the 10th round, the only time either fighter was hurt in the bout. It was Dirrell who was landing the big shots when the fight went into the last three rounds.
