Klitschko vs. Chambers prediction

Image: Klitschko vs. Chambers predictionBy Dave Lahr: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is perhaps the best heavyweight we’ve seen since Lennox Lewis retired six years ago. Klitschko’s power, hand speed, movement and athleticism is unmatched by any other heavyweight in the division. He’s been almost untouchable since hiring legendary trainer Emanuel Steward six years ago fix his stamina and defensive liabilities. With that said, I think challenger Eddie Chambers (35-1, 18 KO’s) is going to knock Klitschko out in the 6th round on March 20th when they meet at the ESPRIT arena, Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

That chin on Klitschko has got to be made of the finest china I’ve ever seen. We’re talking some really brittle china here. Klitschko can’t handle any kind of pressure, and seems to stress out if any of his opponents even fake like they’re going to go after him. Chambers will be going after Klitschko. He’s going to be going after him big time and looking to put a serious hurting on that big Ukrainian.

It’s going to almost funny to see Klitschko running from the little 6’1” Chambers, because the size disparity alone will be tremendous. It’ll be like a small wide receiver chasing a line around looking to beat on him. Klitschko still has no inside game after all the years, and I don’t understand what the problem is on that end. Wladimir must have not put in the work, because after all this time, he should have been able to learn how to throw a halfway decent uppercut.

Emanuel Steward taught Lennox Lewis how to throw an uppercut, and after he learned that weapon, Lewis throwing it all the time when he would be crowded by shorter opponents. I guess Klitschko didn’t put in the effort to learn it, because he had the right teacher. Well, it’s too bad he didn’t learn how to throw one, because he will certainly need it on March 20th, as Chambers is going to be crowding Klitschko on the inside and beating him up.

I think this fight will be over by the 6th. It won’t take that hard of a shot for Chambers to get Klitschko out of there, because of his weak chin. But also I think by the time that Chambers takes Klitschko out, the Ukrainian will be bloodied and battered from all the shots he’s going to be taking in the fight. Chambers is a slick fighter, and very hard to hit and speedy fast.

I was watching two of his recent fights against Samuel Peter and Alexander Dimitrenko, and I was amazed at how good Chambers was at coming under the jabs from them. He picked off a lot of the right hands from Peter and Dimitrenko while on the outside, and once he was in close to them, Chambers landed beautiful combinations before they had time to react.

They were trying, but they didn’t have the speed or the inside game that Chambers has. Klitschko is a much worse inside fighter compared Peter and Dimitrenko. All Klitschko knows how to do is grab and clinch on the inside. That’ll work some of the time against Chambers, but not enough to keep from getting hit again and again by him. Chambers is too fast to be tied up.
