Image: Abraham Knocks Out Dirrell with an Illegal Blow!By Alexander Fugate: Andre Dirrell was using his superior speed of both hand and foot to frustrate “King” Arthur Abraham. Dirrell kept winning rounds, as Abraham threw very few punches, and most of the ones he did throw landed on nothing but air. Arthur threw numerous wide hooks that missed badly. Then in the fourth round Dirrell dropped Abraham for the first time in his career. In the fifth, it appeared Dirrell dropped Abraham again, but the ref ruled it a slip.

In the tenth, Abraham started pressuring more and appeared put Dirrell down with a right hand, but again the ref ruled it a slip. In the eleventh, Dirrell was continuing to outbox his opponent, when he slipped and fell to his knees. When this happened it appeared Abraham looked at him, saw him down on the canvas, then wound up and threw a devastating haymaker that landed flush on Dirrell’s chin. Dirrell was clearly down, and it looked rather blatant. Dirrell was down for some time and was unconscious for a while, with his legs twitching. Abraham was immediately disqualified.

At the time of the dirty blow, Dirrell was easily winning the fight on all three judges scorecards and had been putting on a boxing clinic. Dirrell kept throwing loads more punches and landing a great many more than Arthur. Throwing combos while Abraham was in his clamshell defense and getting out of the way when Arthur dropped his hands and attacked. Dirrell also threw some potshots that landed cleanly whenever Abraham was trying to cut the ring off. It was a brilliant display of offensive and defensive skill. Still Abraham landed a handful of good, hard, clean shots but Dirrell proved he has a chin, as he took them with little problems

It looked as though The “King” knew he was outclassed and resorted to one of the worst fouls to ever take place in a boxing ring. The fight was in Detroit, so it is doubtful Abraham will be suspended, but if the fight had been in Las Vegas, he would almost certainly be suspended for some time and face a heavy fine. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Abraham is kicked out of the Super Six tournament, but if that’s possible and how that would work is unclear.

Sadly, after the fight, Dirrell didn’t appear to know what happened. When being interviewed he said, he got knocked down, and it appeared he thought he had lost the fight. He was going to a hospital immediately for further medical attention, and the ringside doctor fears there could be brain swelling. Andre Dirrell clearly didn’t know what had happened and was not able to process his thoughts clearly.

Dirrell showed he was a world class boxer and a real threat in the Super Six tonight. Hopefully, Dirrell will be all right and his injuries aren’t too serious. If not, he may not be allowed by medical professionals to go on as scheduled for his upcoming Super Six match against Ward.
