Image: Mayweather to demand random blood tests in future bouts – NewsBy Eric Thomas: According to Mlive, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will demand random blood and urine tests for future fights. This news came from Mayweather’s personal advertiser Lenard Ellerbe, saying “Whoever fights Floyd Mayweather in the future, that person will be subjected to random blood and urine testing. I don’t care who he fights, that will be the case.” This could immediately Mayweather’s potential bout against Shane Mosley in May.

However, Mosley, a Golden Boy Promotions fighter, hasn’t said that he’s against taking blood tests, so this may be a non-issue for this fight. But if Mayweather sticks to this rule, it could make a future fight against Manny Pacquiao impossible to be put together unless Mayweather was willing to give a little on the testing. Mayweather’s March 13th bout with Pacquiao fell apart over the random blood testing for drugs because Pacquiao didn’t want to have blood taken from him within 24 days of the fight.

Initially, Pacquiao agreed to three blood tests – one during the kick off press conference for the fight in early January, another one 30 days before the fight and a final test after the fight. However, Mayweather wanted the blood tests to be truly random all the way until the fight. Eventually, Pacquiao agreed to 24 days, but Mayweather wanted 14 days. That’s where it ended.

Ellerbe says “Floyd is out front, championing this effort to change the way the sport is handled in the future.”

Hopefully, Mayweather won’t force this on Pacquiao if they decide to fight in the future, because this could be an obstacle that would prevent them fighting. Pacquiao feels that having blood taken from him weakens him, and he doesn’t want to have blood taken from him close to the fight for that reason.
