Matthew Hatton says he is ready for Mayweather – news

By Liam Santiago: British welterweight, Matthew Hatton, insists he is ready to take on Floyd Mayweather Jnr, if the Michigan man is ready to step up to the plate. Hatton says the British public would be in favour of the bout, but is not getting too exited just yet. Hatton recently drew with Lovemore N’Dou and lost to Craig Watson last year in a bout where Hatton received a boxing lesson. Hatton has also been beaten and stopped on numerous other occasions.

Speaking in an online video stream, Hatton said, ”It would be an opportunity I’d love to have. I have had so many big fights mentioned to me in the past. The two Zab Judah fights, Julio Cesaer Chavez Jnr approached me twice about a fight. It is certainly a challenge I would be up for. If he did come to England to fight, would they like to see him fight a foreign opponent or would they like to see him fight me?”

Hatton went on, ” It has been put to me, it is certainly a challenge I would be up for ”.

So, would Mayweather be ready for such a huge step up in class? Would the experienced warrior from Manchester be too powerful, too tough and too slick? Would Hatton end up stopping Mayweather with one of his chopping, lethal punches?

On a more serious note. Mayweather, in my eyes, is one of the greatest fighters to ever lace up a glove. However, if he chose to fight Matthew Hatton, I would lose a tonne of respect for him. He doesn’t need to take fights like this. No one in the world can beat Floyd. Mayweather will embarrass Pacquiao by giving him a boxing lesson, then hopefully he will take on Paul Williams. But the idea of Hatton vs Mayweather is a complete joke.

In my eys, Mayweather is in the top five of the greatest fighters in history. The best being Roberto Duran, second being Sugar Ray Robinson, third Rocky Marciano, fourth being Mayweather and fifth being Julior Cesaer Chavez. If Mayweather fights Matthew Hatton, he will lose so much respect. There are other British fighters he could take on. Kell Brook, Junior Witter and Ryan Rhodes are all good fighters, although Pretty Boy would give them all a boxing lesson at the same time with both arms tied behind his back. Let just get one thing straight, no one wants to see Hatton vs Mayweather.
