haye5455By Peter Wells: People like David Haye make me very proud to be British, and I have to give my respect to other sports stars including Jenson Button. The reason I am writing this article is to encourage British viewers on this website to vote for David Haye for BBC British Sports Personality of the year. David Haye became the 3rd British world champion this November, by shocking a lot of the world by beating 7ft 2in Russian Nikolay Valuev. It was a tremendous victory for Haye, and was probably the biggest sporting event in Britain this year. Next year will be the pinnacle of his career, fights lurking against both Klitschko’s after his mandatory defence against American John Ruiz.

It would be a great honour for David Haye to win; he has lifted up the awareness of British boxing, and proved nothing is impossible, honestly he should be advertising Nike. Unfortunately that was David’s only fight of the year, after fights with both Klitschko’s being called off, the Vitali fight didn’t even get as far as arranging a date. Britain’s last boxing winner was Joe Calzaghe 2 years ago, where Ricky Hatton came third just after his defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Also Manny Pacquiao will be contesting for the Overseas BBC Sports Personality of the year award, and who else can win it, Manny has had an even better year, and next year can only get better with his contest against Pretty Boy Floyd. So please vote for Pacquiao and Haye, they deserve to win, and let British boxing live on.
