Manny Pacquiao: Is there any need to criticise him

pac43432By Peter Wells: It’s a horrible thing to read all these articles on this website, targeting Pacquiao to be a cheat, and a poor fighter. This man should be respected, he deserves it, and the likes of Manuel Perez and Liam Santiago really get under my skin. If you don’t like the guy then just keep it to yourself instead of telling us every week why you think he’s so rubbish. But in the real world, we real boxing fans know he is the best boxing in the world, and we all give him credit for him.

I’ll be honest I expected both Oscar and Ricky to beat Manny, and at first I had my doubts that Pacquiao would beat Miguel Cotto, but thank the lord, I was proved wrong. He is no doubt he is one of the greatest boxers ever to live, and if you think he is the best ever, I don’t mind, he has a totally different style to other greats, so they all are great in their own little way. I respect people if they support Mayweather if he fights Pacman next year, because I was obviously supporting Hatton for the same reasons- he’s your man of course.

I’m not a biast writer and like to see the best man win whether it’s one of my favourites fighting, and almost all the time I don’t I just want to see a good fight. With Manny if you don’t like him that’s your choice, whether it’s because he beat one of your favourite fighters or you just don’t like me for some reason then there is no need to criticize where there is no criticism needed. If you want to go and tell him he’s a terrible fighter, and then go and say it to his face instead of putting it on a boxing website.

He is only the 2nd person to stop Oscar De La Hoya, the other being Bernard Hopkins whom fought him at Middleweight. People criticised him because Oscar hadn’t fought at Welterweight for years, and was totally drained. Well go ask Oscar I he was drained or totally outclassed. I really respect fighters who admit that they were outclassed and fair play to De La Hoya.

Then Pacquiao knocks out Ricky Hatton in just 2 rounds with 3 knockdowns, and people say Ricky was drained. He had been fighting as a Light Welterweight for his whole career, and it was Manny coming down in weight. Finally Pacquiao beats Miguel Cotto, and as per usual is criticised for bringing Cotto down 2 pounds, which made no difference whatsoever.

Well once again just ask Cotto if he was drained, because to me he looked in superb shape at the weigh in, and he did have over a month more training, so there you have it. If that’s still not enough to convince those Pacquiao haters then just watch his fights before that, against Diaz and Morales and Marquez, then you’ll see why Pacquiao is the best boxer on the planet.
