Pacquiao Stops Cotto: the Mayweather Duck Clock Begins – News

cotto9By Giancarlo Malinconico: I have stated in many previous boxing articles that Manny Pacquiao would stop Miguel Cotto, and I described the blueprint of how it would happen. Many pundits have made excuses about Pacquiao’s last few opponents, but I have written on many occasions that the Pacman was a different fighter since moving up to 135 pounds. Cotto is a great fighter, and gave Manny trouble early in the fight; But I knew a relentless Manny would eventually stop him.

As far as Floyd “Money” Mayweather is concerned, it is up to him to ensure the fight with the Pacman happens. The Pacman has proven he ducks no one, but Floyd has not been as willing to challenge the best, particularly at welterweight. Instead of fighting Antonio Margarito, Floyd ducked him and opted to fight the obscure journeyman Carlo Baldomir. “Sugar” Shane Mosley called out Mayweather, and surprise, surprise Floyd ducked him as well.

The bottom line, I believe the Pacman would beat Mayweather handily if they were to clash. The Pacman will be able to walkthrough Mayweather’s single shots, and pressure him with combination punching from many angles. I believe Mayweather would end up fighting the way Cotto did in the late rounds against the Pacman, and Pacquiao would cruise to a clear decision victory because Floyd will not want to slug it out with the fast-handed Filipino.

Let us see if Floyd uses the money split or something else as an excuse to avoid fighting Pacquiao. I say 50-50, and let’s get ready to rumble!
